The new “Merz” edition Sequoia from Specialized delivers both aesthetics and performance in a well-apportioned package.

Simplistic styling gives way to key details that one would expect from a one-of-a-kind custom bicycle built by a freelance framebuilder in a small-time operation on the west coast. We loved the matched leather-look bar tape and saddle, along with the raised embossed details of the frame badges. Understated Specialized branding gives credit to the framebuilder whose namesake appears on the frame, Jim Merz.

Combine the superb detailing with the amazing Sequoia steel-frame chassis and Sram Force 1 drivetrain, and you have a machine that is ready for whatever you throw at it- urban crusades or multi-day randonneuring. The wide-range gearing allows the rider to conquer the mountains, while the hydro disc brakes assure the rider smooth braking when fully loaded with camping gear. Gravel roads are soaked up by 42mm wide tubeless-ready tires, comfortable steel frame, and Specialized CG-R seatpost.
